What this season is teaching me about time

Working differently, saying no more often, and the small rituals that make an ordinary Tuesday feel like ours.

What this season is teaching me about time

Motherhood has made time feel both smaller and more generous. The hours can disappear, but the moments inside them have become more precise. A quiet breakfast can hold an entire morning. Ten minutes on the floor can reset a difficult day.

I am learning to work differently. Not less seriously, but with clearer edges. I say no sooner. I leave some messages unanswered until tomorrow. The world rarely ends, and I arrive at the people I love with more of myself intact.

Our rituals are deliberately ordinary: music while we make breakfast, a walk before dinner, choosing a book for the sofa. Their repetition is the point. Children notice the shape of a day long before they understand its schedule.

I still get it wrong. I hurry when there is nowhere urgent to go. I look at my phone while someone is telling me something important. But presence is not perfection; it is returning. This season is teaching me how to return more quickly.
